What ESG Means To Star West

Fueling a More Sustainable Future

At Star West Petroleum, sustainability is not a standalone initiative—it is part of how we do business. We believe responsible growth requires balancing operational excellence, environmental stewardship, strong governance, and meaningful community relationships.

As a Western Canadian supplier of fuels, lubricants, equipment solutions, and technical services, we recognize our responsibility to operate safely, support our communities, reduce environmental impacts where practical, and help customers achieve their own sustainability objectives.

Our approach is grounded in continuous improvement, transparency, and practical action. We focus on the areas where we can have the greatest impact: employee health and safety, Indigenous partnerships, environmental stewardship, operational efficiency, and responsible governance.

Our ESG Priorities

Four priority themes where we can make the greatest impact.

Through our ESG Materiality Assessment, we identified the topics that matter most to our stakeholders, customers, employees, Indigenous partners, and communities. While sustainability encompasses many areas, our efforts are focused on four priority themes.

  • Employee Health, Safety & Well-Being

Creating a workplace where employees return home safely every day remains our highest priority. We are committed to fostering a culture of safety, continuous learning, and personal well-being throughout our organization.

  • Climate Adaptation, Resilience & Transition

We recognize the importance of helping customers navigate an evolving energy landscape. Through renewable fuel options, operational efficiencies, and practical emissions-reduction initiatives, we support customers seeking responsible pathways toward their sustainability goals.

  • Local Communities & Indigenous Partnerships

Strong relationships are essential to long-term success. We are committed to creating shared value through meaningful partnerships, local engagement, and economic participation opportunities that support the communities where we operate.

  • Asset Integrity & Critical Incident Management

Reliable infrastructure and responsible operations are fundamental to serving our customers. We continually invest in systems, processes, and risk management practices that strengthen safety, reliability, and operational resilience.

Social

Indigenous Partnerships & Community Investment

We believe meaningful partnerships are built on trust, respect, transparency, and long-term commitment. Star West Petroleum works alongside Indigenous communities and organizations throughout Western Canada to create opportunities for shared growth and mutual success.

Our approach focuses on building relationships that extend beyond transactions and contribute to long-term economic participation, employment opportunities, supplier diversity, and community development. By listening, learning, and collaborating, we strive to ensure our partnerships create lasting value for both our business and the communities we serve.

Environmental

Environmental Stewardship

Environmental responsibility is integrated into our day-to-day operations and long-term planning. As a supplier of fuels, lubricants, equipment solutions, and technical services, we recognize our responsibility to continually evaluate opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and support lower-carbon alternatives where practical.

  • Renewable fuel solutions, including HDRD and R100 renewable diesel
  • Distribution of Aspen alkylate fuels for specialty applications
  • Development of a company-wide greenhouse gas baseline and reduction plan
  • Fuel management technologies that improve inventory control and reduce unnecessary deliveries
  • Contamination control programs that extend lubricant life and reduce waste generation
  • Ongoing evaluation of fleet and facility efficiency opportunities

In 2025, Star West added its first hybrid vehicle to the company fleet as part of our commitment to evaluating practical technologies that support long-term emissions reduction.

“Beyond exceeding expectations with our operational needs, Star West Petroleum has been a crucial partner in advancing our sustainability goals. Their proactive approach and significant logistical expertise were imperative to the success of our parent company in its groundbreaking achievement as the first transportation fleet in British Columbia to successfully transition to R100 diesel fuel with reliable wheel-to-wheel delivery throughout the 2024 season. This accomplishment highlights Star West Petroleum’s commitment to providing innovative fuel solutions and seamless delivery, even for pioneering initiatives.”
